The Child Protection Team

When a child is hurt or something feels wrong, families are suddenly pulled into a world of hotlines, police reports, and medical appointments.

Without coordination, a child may be asked to retell painful details again and again, to different adults, in unfamiliar places. Crucial medical evidence can be missed. Caregivers are left wondering what to do, who to trust, and how to keep their child safe.

Our Solution & Results

The Child Protection Team at Collier CAC is often the first place a child comes after abuse is suspected. We bring trained medical providers, forensic interviewers, and partner agencies together in one child-friendly space.

  • Children receive a specialized medical exam that looks for injury, documents concerns, and rules out health complications.

  • Forensic interviewers talk with children in a developmentally appropriate way, so law enforcement and child welfare professionals can gather the information they need without repeated questioning.

  • Families meet with staff who explain what is happening, what will happen next, and how we will support them along the way.

Because services are coordinated under one roof, what would require several separate stops is often reduced to a single visit, lowering stress on children and caregivers and preserving time-sensitive evidence that can help protect them.

What The Child Protection Team Provides

  • Forensic medical evaluations for children when abuse or neglect is suspected, performed by clinicians trained in child abuse pediatrics.

  • Forensic interviews that follow best practices and are recorded for investigative partners.

  • Immediate safety assessment and planning with the non-offending caregiver.

  • Referrals to therapy and advocacy services so support continues after the first visit.

  • Close coordination with DCF, law enforcement, and the State Attorney’s Office while remaining an independent nonprofit focused on the child’s well-being.

All services are provided at no cost to the family.

“My daughter felt protected the entire time, and honestly, so did I. I came in scared and unsure, which felt odd as a parent, but they explained the process, answered every question, and made both of us feel safe.”
